Lewes & Brighton Tai Chi School of Central Equilibrium

Lewes & Brighton Tai Chi School of Central Equilibrium was founded in 2016 by Esaias (Matthew) Hobbs of Lewes and Russell Erskine of Brighton. Based at the Lewes Subud Centre on Station Street in Lewes and at The Edge Community Centre in Brighton what makes Lewes & Brighton Tai Chi School of Central Equilibrium different to other Schools of Tai Chi is the five loosening exercises developed by Grandmaster Huang Sheng Shyan, which embody the true principles of Tai Chi and allow us to train the Tai Chi principles in an extremely concentrated way.

When we understand the principles of Tai Chi, we are able to bring  those principles into the Tai Chi form, so our form becomes alive and a true means of practicing the Tai Chi principles. When we are able to experience the Tai Chi principles in the form we are then able to bring those principles into partner work, also referred to as pushing hands.

Having studied Tai Chi since the early 90’s Esaias discovered his teacher Wee Kee Jin in the early 2000’s and found all his questions concerning Tai Chi were answered and more besides! The ethos of the Lewes Tai Chi School of Central Equilibrium is that we are all students on the Tai Chi path, sharing our knowledge and insights as we train; some of us have more experience, but we are all students.

Russell began training with Jin 10 years ago, he has found through practice, patience and perseverance that the meditative effects of our system create stability of mind and body and is an excellent tool for life. He has found that in our modern stressful times, it is a revolutionary antidote to modern life.

Tai Chi is great for mindfulness, relaxation, health, balance and is great fun!
